But What is Not
Oil on Stretched Canvas 120 x 140 x 5cm

Signed on reverse by David.
“And nothing is but what is not” (Shakespeare – Macbeth)
This is based on the image of a figure in the studio but in elemental style. One of the intentions behind this painting, as with other indoor paintings I do, is to convey both an indoor space and an elemental outdoor feeling by working with the qualities of paint, surface, movement and texture to evoke and touch the senses.
I was reading Macbeth at the time, and these words of Macbeth just kept recurring in my head, so this is what I used for the title.
